The Phantom of the Opera returns to the Netherlands: Rotterdam 2028
The Phantom Returns to the Netherlands!
MediaLane, LW Theatres, and the Nieuwe Luxor Theatre Rotterdam have officially announced the return of The Phantom of the Opera in 2028.
Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful and spectacular musicals in the world. The popular musical celebrates its 40th anniversary in the West End this year. This announcement is an incredible step for the musical world and the production. It continues to be a global phenomenon, reaching over 160 million people across 52 countries.
““My father brought the musical to the Netherlands when I was three years old, shaping the Dutch musical landscape forever,” says Iris van den Ende of MediaLane. “Being able to bring this iconic title with MediaLane Theatre now is very special to me. I think many people here, just like myself, are looking forward to this.””
The story takes you deep into the heart of the Paris Opera House, where Christine Daaé is reunited with Raoul, only to find herself under the spell of the mysterious Phantom. With a powerful storyline and Lloyd Webber’s renowned, romantic score, featuring classics like The Music of the Night, All I Ask of You, and the iconic title track, it remains one of the most popular musicals of all time.
This isn’t the first time the production has graced Dutch stages. Thirty years ago, in 1996, the show became a massive hit in Scheveningen, starring Henk Poort and Ben Cramer, with Poort delivering an unforgettable performance as the Phantom. Now, starting in the spring of 2028, a new generation can experience this masterpiece exclusively at the Nieuwe Luxor Theatre in Rotterdam.
