Published in 1847 by Charlotte Brontë, Jane Eyre is a classic Victorian coming-of-age story that follows a fiercely independent orphan navigating a harsh and rigid society. Spanning her abusive childhood, her time at a brutal charity school, and her eventual role as a governess at the gloomy Thornfield Hall, the novel is famed for its passionate love story between Jane and her brooding employer, Mr. Rochester. However, when a dark family secret is exposed on their wedding day, Jane is forced to choose between her heart and her moral integrity. At its core, it remains a timeless, gothic masterpiece about a woman’s fight for self-respect, freedom, and love on her own terms.
