Interview: Lucy Buncombe - Remember, Rememer (Edinburgh Fringe)

What if SIX and Operation Mincemeat had a child? Remember, Remember is about taking the dry, dusty textbook history of the 1605 Gunpowder Plot and blowing it sky-high with a glittering, chaotic, high-energy pop musical makeover.

Crafted by WIT?—four razor-sharp actor-writers from the Fringe-favourite comedy show NewsRevue—this show completely shreds the archives to deliver a fiercely witty, five-star satirical explosion.

Winner of the Glitch Award at the Lambeth Fringe 2025 and the Pleasance's Charlie Hartill Fund 2026.

Could you tell us a bit more about yourself and your role in Remember, Remember!?

Hello! My name is Lucy, I’m a London-based actor, and I graduated from Mountview 2 years ago! I have the pleasure of playing the iconic Guy Fawkes in Remember, Remember!, and of course, our narrating ensemble of Stuarts.

For someone who hasn't heard of it yet, how would you describe the show in your own words?

‘Remember, Remember!’ is a comedy musical about the Gunpowder Plot. It follows the story of Robert Catesby, the true mastermind behind the plan, and all the madcap characters he meets along the way. It’s completely historically inaccurate, very camp and very silly, and a lot of fun.

The show is described as a 'ridiculously camp retelling' of history. How much fun, and how much chaos, is it to bring this story to life?

It is the most fun show to perform - we really do all have the best time writing and performing it. When we first wrote the show in 2025, there was definitely a lot of chaos. We were more concerned with just getting something out there and seeing if it landed than making the show work narratively. But now we’ve had another year of development to streamline and tweak, so hopefully, fingers crossed, the audiences will not only leave the show having had a good laugh, but will also have followed the journey of our protagonist. (In amongst all of the inevitable chaos...).

What are the biggest challenges you face when performing or working on a high-energy comedy show like this?

We all really enjoy working together as a cast, and as co-writers, so there have actually been very few bumps in the road along the way. We met and worked together initially on NewsRevue and got to learn how each other works, which was a great foundation for our ventures as WIT.

I think we’re all considering the stamina that’s required to not only perform a show in which we rarely leave the stage, but also to look after ourselves during the fringe. We all want to be as match fit as possible, so we can deliver the best show for our lovely audiences coming in.

What are you most looking forward to when it comes to bringing this show to an audience at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival?

I’m really looking forward to seeing how the show lands differently every night! You never know with comedy how things are going to go; it’s a constant tightrope walk throughout, and I think it’ll be great to see how the show stands up in front of different audiences. I always love it when audiences laugh at the things you least expect them to, or a line that has been in the show for a while that you’ve forgotten about. It keeps it exciting and new each time.

If you had to describe the vibe of Remember, Remember! in just three words, which ones would you choose?

Camp, hilarious, and joyful
